Are Catholics Christians? Are Mormons Christians? Am I a Christian?
WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN?
This is one of the most important questions a human can ask.
Instead of asking humans what they think the answer is, why don't we go to GOD'S WORD and see what GOD has to say on the matter.
GOD says in Acts 11:26 that "disciples of JESUS were FIRST called Christians... in Antioch." So, we see that according to GOD, Christians are disciples of JESUS. JESUS says that a human CANNOT be HIS disciples if they will not A. Love JESUS more than their wives, kids, parents, brothers * sisters, even their own life. B. Take up their cross and follow HIM (being bold and enduring the blowback > even to crucifixion). and C. Be WILLING to give up anything and everything for HIM. (Luke 14) THEN HE says, "Why do you call ME LORD and do not do what I say?" As in, we shouldn't. If you are UNWILLING to obey JESUS, don't call HIM LORD. GOD says we should not take HIS name in vain. Many think this refers to cussing (there's other teaching for that), but in fact, GOD was making a covenant with HIS people, and telling them not to enter into that covenant in vain. Mean it. Be genuine. JESUS repeats this message when HE tells people trying to follow HIM that they should really sit down and think about it first. They did. And they all left HIM. All except the 12. That's you and me. We should stay when everyone else leaves. Yes, LORD. We will give up anything and everything for YOU. Yes, LORD, we will endure the suffering for being obedient, like YOU did. Yes, LORD, we will put YOU above all, above every relationship, and even above our own survival... like YOU did.
Many will not be willing to part with their church, or their pastor, or their friends, family, job, school, home, money, resources, food, clothing, vehicles, vacations... and they will instead love their life.
JESUS says if you love your life, you will lose it.
You will LOSE LIFE.
So then you cannot be a disciple of JESUS, so says THE LORD, and so you CANNOT be a Christian. Do not let the world deceive you.
Note: We cannot do this perfectly. We ARE called to perfection, but as we fail, GOD says HIS grace is sufficient. Brush it off. "... forget the things of the past and reach forward to the things of the future." Pursue perfection and righteousness. Aspire to obey and follow as GOD tells us to. Let us PRAY and ASK GOD to help us fall deeper in love with HIM. We are allowed to ASK... "FATHER, please HELP ME love YOU and be obedient."
"FATHER, let YOUR will be done in me; in all of me and in all I have."
"Here I am, FATHER! Send me!"
